Alvin "Vinnie" Chea, was born in San Francisco in 1967. A product of Christian Education, Chea attended Adventist schools exclusively, earning a Bachelor of Arts English & Communications Double-major from Oakwood University.
It was at Oakwood that he joined the band "Alliance." "Alliance" had formed while rehearsing in a campus restroom. After being discovered, Alliance went on to become Take 6, and soon skyrocketed to international fame.
They are now the most awarded Vocal group in Grammy History, winning 10 trophies and 24 nominations. During his 32-year music career, Chea has individually been featured as an Artist or Sideman in scores of Sound Recordings in virtually all genres. Additionally, he has appeared in hundreds of Film & TV Soundtracks. Alvin's Voice-Overs can be heard on TV & Radio covering everything from Movie Trailers to Video Games.
He voiced Chili's iconic TV campaign, "I want my baby-back, baby-back, baby-back ribs." He sings the tag, "The Snack that Smiles Back" for Goldfish crackers, and also narrates Disney Nature specials and IllustraMedia documentaries. Recently, Alvin can be heard doing V.O.G. work for both the NHL's and the NAACP's Award shows.
Alvin is the first voice heard after Michael Jackson's on "This is It," and the only non-"Jackson" to record on that song.
Finally, Alvin & 4 other amazing LA session singers (Tim Davis, Elin Carlson, Gerald White and Cindy Borquin) added the Vocal Underscore to Fox's hit show "Glee" which ran for 6 seasons. He now appears daily on Disney's The Lion Guard, once again anchoring 4 voices in the Underscore.
It was while touring with Take 6, that he came full circle to his writing. He began sharing glimpses of life on the road in a monthly blog featured on Take6.com. The popular BassLines blog has now become a published biopic, chronicling his career history as a Recording Artist and entertainer. BassLines has basked in rave reviews from industry icons Bill Cosby, Yolanda King, Quincy Jones and CeCe Winans. Alvin plans to follow up BassLines with Mo' BassLines in the near future.
In their nearly 30 + year career, Take 6 has garnered several venerated music industry honors; among them the Christian Music Industry's Dove Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Gospel Music's Stellar Awards. Take 6 reached a career pinnacle by recently being inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Of Alvin's many cherished memories, one of his proudest with Take 6 came at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, when they sang along with Stevie Wonder in the front of a Television Crowd of several million, on the night of Barack Obama's historic Democratic Nomination for President.
Despite his world travels, Alvin warmly calls Breath of Life Worship Center in Inglewood, California his home, and can be found worshipping there most Sabbaths as a member of the Praise Team with his wife Adria and their 4 children.
