Peter Eldridge's spot-on arrangement of a song made popular by The Carpenters in 1972 has lyrics that may be about a relationship between two people, but may also be interpreted as a statement on our treatment of one another in society today. Lyric solos by any voice part carry the verses, and a strong chorus is embellished by some subtle jazz reharmonization. A powerful development section uses polyphony to build energy toward the final chorus, with some room for melismatic vocal improv.
